Growing up, one of the most destructive habits we have is to constantly compare your life with those around you. It’s something we shouldn’t be doing, but we can’t help it and often find ourselves creating a lot of negative feelings within. But sometimes, the pressure comes from our own family members, making us feel completely broken inside. We understand how it is to feel like you’re not “good enough”, so here are 5 things to remember the next time you find yourself in a similar situation.
#1 Nobody Is Perfect.
Appearances are deceiving. Just because someone excels at something you don’t, or has something you don’t have, it doesn’t mean that their life is perfect. While they may look like it on the outside, know that nobody is truly 100% perfect and whether you’re close enough to know it or not, everybody is going through a suffering of their own. It’s important to know that the person you are right now – imperfections and all – is enough.
#2 Focus On Your Strengths
We all have our own weaknesses, we all find ourselves messing up at one point or another. But instead of berating yourself for your mistakes, give yourself a pat on the back for trying. Celebrate your strengths and be proud of how much you’ve grown because of that mistake and the progresses you have made towards your goals.
#3 Life Isn’t A Race, It’s A Journey.
Your entire life is a journey, not a competition. Rather than placing so much focus on that end goal, how about enjoying the journey in achieving that objective instead? After all, what’s the point in being the first to reach the destination, but not having gained any experiences in the process? Remember that everyone’s journey is different, and yours is nothing to be ashamed of, no matter where your journey places you in life.
#4 You Are Exactly Where You Need To Be
When you find yourself in the middle of a comparing contest, it may seem like where you are in your life right now is not where you’re meant to be. But in actual fact, it’s the exact opposite! Remind yourself that you are in the perfect place right now, and continue moving forward with the trust that you will get to where you need to be eventually.
#5 Think Of How Awesome You Truly Are
We’re pretty sure you’ve done some awesome things in your lifetime, so instead of harping on the bad, focus on all the times you’ve kicked ass at something and start replaying it in your head. It’s hard for someone to make you feel bad about yourself when you’ve seen the true brilliance of yourself.
